Acne Treatment

Aromatherapy is quite effective in treating acne.

There are a number of herbs and plants that have the natural antiseptic and antivirals that are included in some of the commercial medicines and over the counter treatments.

A common recommendation is Tea Tree oil.

Tea Tree oil is a great antiseptic and has purifying properties and is also helpful with cleansing of many skin conditions, even dandruff, and should be rubbed on.

You can make a wonderful cream that you may apply to the affected area by blending 1 ounce carrier oil, such as Apricot oil and 10 drops of Lavender, 7 drops of Tea Tree, and 1 drop of Geranium oil.

Tea Tree oil can also be applied directly, full strength, to the affected area.

Be sure you test your skin sensitivity on a small area before using it to treat all areas.

Clove oil is another essential oil with purifying properties. In its pure form it is very irritating, so you won't use it directly on you skin, and should be blended with a carrier oil.

Lavender oil also is known for it's antibacterial qualities. Lavender oil works well as a preventative acne treatment and stops future breakouts, providing a soothing to the redness that often accompanies acne. As with Clove oil, this should not be used full strenth and should be added to a carrier oil.

Skin Friendly Carrier Oils include:

  • Almond Oil - easily absorbed by the skin, is very smooth and is beneficial for your hair, as well as dry skin and brittle nails
  • Apricot kernel Oil - a light oil that is particularly good for use on the face if the skin is dry or aging
  • Jojoba Oil - light weight and rich in vitamins, used in shampoos and treats dandruff and dry scalp
